What should be included in a roadside emergency kit?

Car Emergency Kit Checklist

In addition to some automotive supplies that should always be on-hand inside your vehicle, like a tire gauge and tire-changing supplies, drivers should also be equipped with a roadside emergency kit in case of unexpected weather or vehicle malfunctions that leave you stuck on the side of the road. Find out what we think is most important to include in our car emergency kit checklist below.

The items below represent what we feel would be a well-rounded emergency kit to supplement other safety and maintenance supplies you should already have inside your vehicle. For storing your roadside emergency kit, we recommend a backpack or small plastic bin that can be thrown in the back of your trunk. Consider using bungee cords, or another similar item, to secure your kit inside your trunk to prevent it from sliding around during daily driving.

Pre-Made Kits

While there are some pros to packing your own kit (you can tailor it to your vehicle, climate, and family), there is no harm in purchasing a pre-made kit. There are plenty of options available online via a quick Google search. If you do purchase a pre-made kit online we suggest thoroughly going through the items after purchase before throwing it in the trunk so you know exactly what is available to you in case of an emergency. You can also consider adding any of the items listed above that may not be included already.
